Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July 2025: What’s Coming and Why It Might Not Be Enough
This Wednesday, July 9, Samsung is hosting its Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event live from Brooklyn, New York, streaming worldwide via Samsung’s website and YouTube starting at 14:00 UTC. And while leaks have stripped away much of the surprise, there’s still plenty to talk about-new foldables, watches, and even a tri-fold prototype.
Galaxy Z Fold7: Thinner, Lighter, But Not Bolder
Samsung’s latest Fold, the Galaxy Z Fold7, boasts the thinnest and lightest body in its category yet-just 8.9mm folded, 4.2mm unfolded, and 215g. That’s a notable trim from the Fold6, but this sleekness doesn’t bring much more to the table beyond aesthetics. The same 4,400mAh battery returns, good for around 40 hours, and the camera hardware mostly sticks to familiar ground with a 200MP main sensor and two 10MP and 12MP sidekicks.
Samsung does promise enhanced AI smarts for the camera system, but the Z Fold7 feels more like a refined Fold6 than a true next-gen leap. Pricing starts at a wallet-tensing €2,200 for the base 256GB model, with pre-order perks like free storage upgrades expected.
Galaxy Z Flip7 and Flip7 FE: Budget Cuts and Bigger Batteries
Alongside the Fold, Samsung’s clamshell series is also evolving. The Z Flip7 is getting a larger 4.1” cover display, a slight trim in thickness, and a 300mAh battery bump to 4,300mAh. It’ll be powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 2500 in most regions, while North America and China may get Snapdragon variants. RAM sits at 12GB, with up to 512GB of storage available.
The Flip7 FE aims to keep foldables accessible, reusing much of the Flip6’s design and packing an older Exynos 2400 chip. With 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, it’s positioned to hit an ~$800 price point, making it the most affordable foldable in the lineup.
Galaxy Watch8 Series: Familiar Faces with a ‘Squircle’ Twist
Samsung’s new Watch8 lineup-Watch8, Watch8 Classic, and Watch8 Ultra-adopts the “squircle” design debuted in the Watch Ultra. The Ultra stands out with a rotating bezel and crown, while the others offer more streamlined designs. But under the hood, they still rely on last year’s Exynos W1000 chip. Health-focused features like bedtime guidance, antioxidant tracking, and a revamped running coach headline the software updates via One UI 8 Watch.
Storage gets a bump, with leaked Watch8 Classic prototypes showing 64GB onboard. However, fans expecting a big leap in performance or battery life may be left wanting.
Tri-Fold Tease: Innovation in Limbo
The much-rumored tri-fold Galaxy device is expected to make a cameo at Unpacked, featuring a 6.49” cover and a 9.96” main display. But here’s the catch: it’s reportedly launching only in Korea and China-and even there, in extremely limited quantities. Its appearance in One UI 8 code confirms its legitimacy, but don’t hold your breath for a wide release this year.
Final Thoughts: More of the Same?
Samsung’s 2025 Unpacked is a mix of iterative hardware updates and one tantalizing glimpse at what could be the future of foldables. But for many users, the focus on shaving millimeters rather than revolutionizing features leaves much to be desired. Yes, the devices are thinner. Yes, the batteries are slightly larger. But are we really getting more for the money?
The event will likely open pre-orders for the new devices immediately after, with open sales starting July 25. But unless you’re hyped for slimmer bezels and marginal gains, this Unpacked might just feel a bit… expected.
