Samsung has just unveiled its latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Alongside the more premium Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the sleek Galaxy Z Flip 7, the company introduced a new variant: the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
If the design feels familiar, it’s because it closely resembles the Flip 6, with a few upgrades under the hood and a fresh label.
The core specs of the Z Flip 7 FE are quite similar to its predecessor. It retains the same 6.7-inch inner display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and the 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen, both of which were present in the Flip 6. In contrast, the standard Flip 7 features a larger edge-to-edge cover screen, a significant design change for the series.
As for color options, the FE model is only available in black and white-no flashy pastels or gradients this time around, as Samsung opts for simplicity.
The camera setup remains unchanged from the previous model. It boasts a 50 MP main sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide, and a 10 MP selfie camera. The 50 MP FlexCam allows for high-quality photos and videos even in Flex Mode, making it ideal for hands-free content creation such as vlogs and TikToks.
In terms of AI capabilities, the Flip 7 FE runs on One UI 8 based on Android 16, with features like Generative Edit and Edit Suggestions, which allow users to improve their photos with minimal effort. This device also comes with Samsung’s Knox security features, including the advanced KEEP (Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection) for app-specific encrypted storage, ensuring enhanced data privacy. Post-quantum cryptography in Secure Wi-Fi offers even greater protection on public networks.
The device is powered by the Exynos 2400 chip, the same found in the Galaxy S24 outside the US, replacing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of the Flip 6. While both chips offer solid performance, the Snapdragon is still superior in terms of raw performance, especially for gaming. The Flip 7 FE is available in two configurations: 8 GB RAM with either 128 GB or 256 GB of storage.
Battery-wise, it sports the same 4,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging, offering up to 16 hours of web browsing or 10 hours of gaming, just like the Flip 6. It supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4 for connectivity.
Pre-orders for the Flip 7 FE are now live, with the device hitting shelves on July 25. Pricing starts at $899 for the 128 GB model and $959 for the 256 GB version.
The big question, however, is whether the Flip 7 FE is worth upgrading to, especially considering its similarities to the Flip 6. For example, the Flip 6 with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage is currently available for $899, which is the same price as the base FE model with 8 GB of RAM and less storage. If you’re considering alternatives, the Motorola Razr Plus (2025) offers more RAM, faster charging, and a larger cover screen, though it falls short on software support, with only three years of updates compared to Samsung’s seven-year promise.
In conclusion, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a solid device, but with similar options available from last year or competitors like Motorola, it may not be the best choice for everyone.
