Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: The Ultimate Clamshell Foldable with Display Upgrades

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is almost here, set to make its official debut next month, with sales beginning in August. As expected, Samsung has taken the clamshell design to the next level, refining its foldable phone to perfection.

Whether you’re upgrading from the Galaxy Z Flip 6 or jumping into the foldable scene for the first time, the Flip 7 promises to impress.

One of the most noticeable upgrades is in the display. The exterior screen size is bumped up from 3.5 inches to 4 inches, providing more space for notifications and quick interactions. The main display also gets a boost, increasing from 6.7 inches to a more expansive 6.9 inches, making the device feel more like a flagship smartphone when fully unfolded.

Not only is the size growing, but the design is evolving too. Recent leaks have confirmed that the Flip 7 will feature a more seamless outer display by removing the camera cutout. This change, first spotted in leaked renders, aligns with the design seen in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Samsung’s budget-friendly foldable variant, also set for release in August.

The bezels around the main display are getting thinner as well, which should provide a more immersive experience. While these design tweaks are impressive, it’s clear that Samsung still has some areas to improve – notably, the battery capacity and charging speed. Samsung has historically kept its battery sizes relatively small compared to the competition, and the Flip 7 is expected to follow this trend

. Faster charging would definitely be welcome, but for now, it seems the Flip 7 is pushing the limits of what’s possible with its foldable technology.

In terms of competition, the Xiaomi Mix Flip presents a serious challenger. With a similarly sized display and slimmer bezels, the Mix Flip matches the Flip 7 in many ways, offering a larger battery and a Snapdragon processor. While Samsung sticks with the Exynos 2500 chip, the Mix Flip 2 will come powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which could give it the edge in terms of performance.

Ultimately, the Flip 7 is shaping up to be a strong contender in the foldable space. If you’re not fussed about battery life and prioritize long-term software support, Samsung’s foldable might still be the better option for you. However, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2, with its more robust battery and faster charging, could be the one to beat in the future.
