Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7: A Record-Breaking Success

Samsung continues to break records with its wildly popular Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. If you were skeptical about these foldable devices due to their steep prices and design similarities, you may need to rethink your stance.

The new Z Fold 7, despite its razor-thin build, and the Z Flip 7, which has faced some criticism for being repetitive, have surpassed expectations in key markets like India and South Korea.

Though still early in their release, all signs point to a successful run. The Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 have already matched the popularity of the Galaxy S25 series in India, and they’ve even broken the pre-order record set by the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 in Samsung’s home country. The surge in pre-orders is a clear indication of their strong appeal.

In comparison, the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 didn’t fare as well. While still impressive with 5.2 million units sold globally in the first six months, they fell short of expectations. The Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 only managed 910,000 units in their first pre-order period in South Korea, far below the 1.02 million units pre-ordered by their predecessors. The Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7, however, have already surpassed that with 1.04 million pre-orders by July 21, showing a strong upward trend.

This jump may not seem dramatic, but it’s significant given the predicted stagnation in the foldable market. The pre-order window is still open, meaning these numbers could rise even further. This indicates a positive outlook for Samsung’s sales and profits in Q3 2025, especially if the foldables perform well in Europe and North America as they have in South Korea and India.

Perhaps the most surprising shift comes from the Z Fold 7, which is outselling the Z Flip 7 for the first time. The Z Fold 7 accounts for 60% of pre-orders in South Korea, while the Z Flip 7 takes up 40%. This marks a massive change from last year, when the Z Flip 6 outsold the Z Fold 6 by a significant margin. The Z Fold 7’s slim profile and eye-catching design are clearly resonating with consumers, making it a big success despite its high price.
