The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rapidly making its way into the spotlight, with a highly anticipated release rumored for July.
As more leaks surface, it’s becoming increasingly clear that this device is a serious leap forward for Samsung’s foldable technology, leaving the Galaxy Z Fold 6 looking outdated in comparison.
In a new hands-on video from a popular Korean tech YouTube channel, we get our first glimpse of the Fold 7 beside the Fold 6. The difference is striking. While the Fold 6 felt modern when it was first released, the Fold 7 now looks sleeker, slimmer, and more advanced.
One of the biggest upgrades in the Fold 7 is its thickness. At just 4.5 mm when unfolded, it’s a significant reduction compared to the 5.6 mm thickness of the Fold 6. For comparison, the Galaxy S25 Edge measures in at 5.8 mm, highlighting how thin the Fold 7 has become. When folded, the Z Fold 7 is even slimmer at 9 mm, compared to the 12.1 mm of its predecessor. Samsung has also focused on making this model the lightest Galaxy foldable yet, ensuring a more comfortable hold despite its larger size.
Display-wise, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 sports a larger 8.2-inch main screen, a noticeable improvement over the 7.6-inch display on the Fold 6. This larger screen offers more real estate for multitasking and entertainment. It also follows the Fold 6 SE in having a punch hole camera instead of the under-display camera, likely to improve image quality.
Interestingly, the Fold 7 closely resembles the Fold 6 SE, which was a limited-edition model designed to compete with domestic foldable phones from Chinese manufacturers like Vivo and Oppo. The Fold 7’s slightly thinner bezels give it just a bit more screen space, but in the grand scheme, these changes are more incremental than revolutionary.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the same processor powering the entire Galaxy S25 lineup. However, for those who already have the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE, this might not feel like a major upgrade, as the Fold 7 mainly improves on design and thickness rather than raw power.
As for its place in the foldable market, the Fold 7 is positioning itself as a more refined, slimmer device to rival the bulkier Oppo Find N5. While it may not be drastically different from the Fold 6, its sleeker form factor and longer software support (seven years) will make it an attractive option for users looking to stay in the Samsung ecosystem. For those who prefer a smaller foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 could be a great alternative, although it may feature the Exynos 2500 in some regions, which could be a dealbreaker for some users.
Rumors are also circulating about the potential release of a Galaxy Z Fold 7 FE, aimed at making foldable phones more accessible. If you’ve been hesitant about foldables due to their high price, this might be the model that changes your mind. Or, if you’re waiting for Apple’s foldable phone, you might have to wait a little longer, though expect it to come with a hefty price tag when it eventually launches.
