The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is making waves, quickly proving itself as a huge improvement over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Although it’s not yet in the hands of most consumers who pre-ordered it, early reports suggest it’s exactly what fans had been waiting for, addressing many of the complaints that plagued the Fold 6.
Samsung listened to its customer base, and the results are impressive.
China, one of the largest markets for foldable phones, had become quite competitive, and the Fold 6 quickly fell behind local competitors after its release. To regain market share, Samsung introduced the Fold 6 SE, a region-exclusive variant. However, the Fold 7 is different. Chinese consumers have shown strong support for Samsung, demonstrating that when the company responds to feedback, the results can be outstanding. In fact, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has already outsold the Fold 6 by double in the same time period.
As of 2025, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is easily one of the best foldable devices on the market. It’s slim, offers a stunning display with a significantly improved crease, has excellent cameras, and offers an impressive seven years of software support. Samsung took all the feedback to heart, ditching the bulky, outdated design of the Fold 6 and delivering a device that competes head-to-head with the best foldables out there.
Despite all the improvements, the Fold 7 still has some room for growth. For example, it still uses the same 4,400 mAh battery as the Fold 6, which, on paper, falls behind competitors like the Oppo Find N5 and the Honor Magic V5 in terms of battery capacity. However, there is an argument to be made for the Fold 7’s battery efficiency, which still delivers good performance in real-world use.
The Fold 7 is closely related to the Fold 6 SE, as it’s slimmer than the standard Fold 6 and has a similar-sized main display, along with a punch hole camera design instead of the under-display camera featured in some models.
Looking ahead, if Samsung can manage to increase the battery size for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, it could have a real winner on its hands. This is especially important as 2026 is shaping up to be the year when Apple is expected to announce its own foldable iPhone, which could shake up the market even further.
