Samsung has officially started teasing its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7, focusing heavily on AI-powered camera enhancements that aim to elevate the foldable experience.
The latest teaser hints at a sophisticated multimodal AI search integrated directly into the Galaxy Camera app. This new feature, powered by Samsung’s in-house AI technology, promises to recognize what you’re pointing your camera at and intelligently respond to different shooting scenarios.
Alongside this AI-driven approach, Samsung reintroduces the “Ultra experience” tagline, linking the Z Fold7’s capabilities to the premium quality associated with its flagship line. Beyond the software, the Z Fold7 is shaping up to be Samsung’s thinnest and lightest horizontal foldable phone yet, expected to launch mid-July alongside the Z Flip7 and Z Flip FE models.
However, opinions on these AI improvements are mixed. Some tech enthusiasts suggest that what Samsung markets as “AI” could be more of an enhanced software polish-think improved contrast, boosted colors, and scene recognition that many already find in current smartphones. Critics point out that real innovation would come from better hardware, such as larger sensors and improved optics, rather than just AI filters or camera app tweaks.
Comparisons to competitors are inevitable. Huawei, for example, has introduced foldables with notably larger sensors, including a main 1″ sensor paired with a 1/1.28″ switchable option-hardware specs that arguably offer more tangible camera improvements than AI gimmicks alone.
Still, Samsung’s commitment to refining foldable design with a thinner, lighter device combined with smarter AI-powered photography could appeal to users looking for a blend of style and convenience. Whether the AI camera will truly redefine mobile photography or simply enhance existing features remains to be seen once the phone hits the market.
