Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 Break Pre-order Records in South Korea and India

The Samsung Galaxy Z series has shattered records in South Korea, with the new Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 setting a remarkable benchmark for foldable phones. From July 15 to 21, these devices received 1.04 million pre-orders, surpassing the previous record of 1.02 million set by the Z 5 generation.

In comparison to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, which garnered 910,000 pre-orders, this marks a significant 14% increase.

Notably, the Galaxy Z Fold7 has outperformed the Z Flip7 in terms of pre-orders, accounting for 60% of the total. This is the first time the Fold has eclipsed the Flip in popularity. A year ago, the Z Flip6 dominated with a 60/40 split, and in 2023, the gap was even wider, with the Z Flip5 taking a 70/30 lead.

Demographically, the Galaxy Z Fold7 has attracted a predominantly male audience, with 83% of buyers identifying as men. On the other hand, the Z Flip7 has been more popular among women, with 59% of its pre-orders coming from female buyers. Additionally, foldable phone buyers are getting older, with more than 60% of pre-orders coming from individuals aged between 30 and 50 years old, compared to last year when a significant portion came from younger buyers in their 20s and 30s.

The most sought-after color for both the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 is Blue Shadow, followed by Jet Black for the Fold and Coral Red for the Flip. While the focus of the report is on South Korea, there’s also a noteworthy update from India, where the Galaxy Z 7 series saw 210,000 pre-orders in just the first two days. This sets a new record for foldables in the country and matches the pre-order numbers for the Galaxy S25 series earlier this year.

Despite the heavy interest, some observers have questioned the reasons behind the surge in sales. One comment speculated that the telecoms in Korea may have been hacked, prompting customers to purchase new devices. However, the impressive pre-order numbers seem to point to a much stronger demand, driven by the innovative design and performance of the Galaxy Z series.
