Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7: Slimmer, Lighter, and Packed with Upgrades

As Samsung gears up for its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, excitement is building around the Galaxy Z Fold7. Thanks to a new hands-on video from Korean YouTube channel TheSINZA, we now have our best look yet at the foldable flagship – even if it’s just a dummy unit based on reliable leaks.

The dummy reveals a sleek and refined design evolution.

Side-by-side with the Galaxy Z Fold6, the Fold7 looks significantly slimmer. When folded, it’s reportedly just 9mm thick, and when open, a mere 4.5mm. That’s a major improvement over the Fold6’s 12.1mm and 5.6mm measurements, respectively. Even more impressively, the new Fold7 is rumored to weigh just 215g – lighter than not just the Fold6 (239g), but also the Galaxy S25 Ultra (218g).

Samsung has managed this while still upgrading the display sizes. The cover screen now stretches to 6.5 inches with a user-friendly 21:9 aspect ratio. Open it up, and you get a massive 8.2-inch inner screen with a punch-hole selfie cam, replacing the under-display camera from the Fold6. This change might irk some purists but could mean better photo quality and fewer compromises.

Internally, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is set to ship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite chipset, offering top-tier performance. It’ll be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options and will launch in Blue Shadow and Jet Black colorways.

Not all feedback has been rosy, though. Some early fans are critical of the new camera bump design, which appears bulkier and more exposed than before. While Samsung likely did this to enhance camera performance, concerns about cleaning and case compatibility persist. Others argue that Samsung’s official cases, which tend to flush the camera with the body, might offset the phone’s newfound thinness.

Still, many believe this is the most refined and practical Fold Samsung has ever produced. With its thinner form, lighter frame, and more usable outer display, the Galaxy Z Fold7 could be the first truly mainstream foldable – a big leap forward for the category. Whether you’re a foldable skeptic or a Samsung loyalist, this launch could mark a major turning point in foldable phone design.
