Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold7 may be the sleekest and lightest foldable yet, but it comes at a cost – no S Pen support. The company decided to remove the digitizer layer needed for stylus input to achieve its slim profile.
But fans of the S Pen shouldn’t give up hope just yet.
According to Kang Min-seok, Managing Director of Samsung MX, the tech giant is still committed to the S Pen, but the current technology isn’t refined enough to integrate it into such a thin foldable. In a recent interview with ET News, Kang explained that Samsung is actively researching thinner, more advanced digitizer solutions, aiming for a future where foldables won’t have to compromise between form and function.
“We will reconsider S Pen integration when the level of perfection increases and there is enough consumer demand,” Kang said. In essence, Samsung is balancing consumer priorities – a lightweight, compact foldable vs. more features like stylus support and bigger batteries.
The omission of the S Pen isn’t the only decision stirring debate. Some users are disappointed with the Z Fold7’s unchanged 4,400mAh battery and lack of charging improvements. Kang addressed this too, hinting that Samsung’s goal isn’t just thinness, but a “perfect product balance.”
That balance may soon include S Pen compatibility again, possibly in an upcoming “Ultra” model or future Fold iteration that embraces a slightly thicker design for enhanced functionality. For now, the Z Fold7 is about refining the foldable experience – even if that means skipping a stylus for the time being.
