Samsung’s upcoming Project Moohan is set to be a game-changer in the world of XR (Extended Reality) devices, aiming to boost revenue from its foldable phones, like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. 
The initial launch will occur in Korea, with global expansion expected shortly after.
Samsung’s flagship smartphones, such as the Galaxy S25 series, typically debut in the first quarter of the year, followed by the foldable models, like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, later on. With Project Moohan, the company looks to support its growth during the latter half of the year, which could lead to annual releases of the XR headset.
Despite previous reports suggesting it would launch alongside the Flip 7 and Fold 7, Project Moohan will not arrive at the same time. However, it will be showcased at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in July
. The official release date for the headset is set for September 29, and it will debut in Korea through a local event.
Samsung is betting on Google’s Android XR platform to drive the success of Project Moohan. While the company is entering the XR market later than competitors, it plans to leverage the large selection of Android apps already available for the device.
In addition, Samsung has reportedly invested significant effort into addressing a major concern for VR users: comfort. Extensive testing and refinement have gone into creating a headset that offers a balance of comfort, battery life, and practical use cases. Project Moohan is designed to directly rival the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3.
While the Vision Pro offers a premium Mixed Reality experience, its high price and lack of content led to disappointing sales. In contrast, Meta’s Quest headsets dominate the XR space due to their affordable pricing and solid hardware. For Samsung to succeed in this competitive field, it will need to deliver a premium experience at a far more accessible price point than Apple.
With the foldable industry experiencing a slight decline, it makes sense for Samsung to explore other avenues for growth, like Project Moohan. Whether the rumored tri-foldable phone will be released this year remains unclear, but if it does, it could make for an exciting time for Samsung fans.
