Samsung Tri-Fold Flagship: A Closer Look at the Upcoming Device

Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold flagship has caused quite a stir, with speculation swirling about its release. While the company’s mobile head, TM Roh, indicated that the device is still being fine-tuned for usability and aiming for a launch by the end of this year, a spokesperson contradicted this by claiming that the device has been ready for some time. According to the spokesperson, the only reason it’s not out yet is due to doubts over its commercial viability.

Roh Tae-moon, the acting head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience Division, revealed some details on the Galaxy G Fold – as it might be called – but stressed that the final name hasn’t been chosen.

What is clear, however, is that Samsung is working hard to launch this tri-fold device by the end of the year. Roh emphasized that the company is focused on perfecting the product’s usability before it reaches consumers, although it’s still in the final stages of development.

Interestingly, a Samsung spokesperson speaking with Android Authority gave a different perspective. According to them, the tri-fold smartphone has been ready for a while, with the design already set. The real issue is whether there’s enough demand for this innovative form factor. The spokesperson also hinted at the device’s hefty price tag, rumored to be around 4 million Korean won (approximately $3,000), which could limit its appeal.

The debate over the device’s commercial success seems to hinge on its practicality and the market’s readiness for such an expensive and cutting-edge product. Samsung’s hesitation might be due to the limited appeal of foldable and tri-fold phones, especially with the high cost and uncertain demand. For now, it remains to be seen whether Samsung can overcome these challenges and make the tri-fold flagship a reality by the end of this year.
