Samsung’s Tri-Fold Phone Leaked: What We Know So Far

Samsung has always been at the forefront of foldable phone innovation, and now they’re pushing the boundaries further with a tri-fold device. After much speculation and anticipation, we finally get a glimpse of this upcoming device thanks to the discovery of hidden animation files in the One UI 8 code.

These files reveal the unique design of Samsung’s tri-fold, which includes three rear panels and two inward-folding hinges.

Unlike the Huawei Mate XT, which folds outward, Samsung’s tri-fold will fold inward. This means the device will unfold from right to left, offering a different approach to the folding mechanism. The hinge design, which features varying sizes, will likely improve durability, a concern for many foldable device users.

One key piece of advice from the leaked footage is to avoid folding the right side of the device inward, where three rear cameras are located. Doing so could damage the display. The tri-fold will also feature a cover screen, which is positioned in the middle when the main screen is fully open. This cover display will likely serve as a useful feature when the device is in its compact form.

The device, internally referred to as the ‘Multifold 7’ in the One UI 8 code, could be marketed under the name Galaxy G Fold, according to reports. This tri-fold will sport a 9.96-inch folding display, with a 6.54-inch cover display, and is expected to weigh about 300 grams. While its commercial availability is still uncertain, initial rumors suggest it may be limited to markets like South Korea and China.

Many tech enthusiasts are eager to see how Samsung’s tri-fold compares to other foldables, such as Huawei’s Mate XT. Although there are still many unknowns, it’s clear that Samsung is aiming to offer a more durable and practical device, with the advantage of Google apps and a high-quality chip inside. For now, all we can do is wait and see if this device lives up to its potential.
