Samsung’s first XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, has been teased numerous times, but its official launch is still just around the corner. According to a new report out of Korea, Samsung is gearing up to unveil the headset on September 29.
Following the unveiling, it will be available for purchase in Korea starting on October 13, with a gradual rollout to other regions after that.
Set to run on Android XR, a specialized version of Android for XR headsets, this new device marks a significant step for Samsung. Android XR, which was first announced last year, is a joint effort between Samsung and Google, stemming from their successful collaboration on Wear OS. As you’d expect, the system will feature Google’s Gemini AI, ensuring a smarter and more immersive experience for users.
The headset is powered by Qualcomm’s XR+ Gen 2 chipset, manufactured by Samsung using a cutting-edge 4nm process. This chipset promises to deliver an enhanced performance suited to the advanced capabilities of the XR device.
Before the official release, the headset will make another appearance at Samsung’s Unpacked event next month, alongside the anticipated announcements of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7.
