Samsung, OnePlus, and Motorola Launch New Flagships – Here’s What Stood Out This Week
This week in tech was packed with big reveals, headlined by Samsung’s newest foldables and wearables. The Galaxy Z Fold7 made waves as the slimmest and lightest in the lineup, boasting a massive 200MP main sensor borrowed from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung also fixed one of the biggest complaints by adding a proper 21:9 outer display. Meanwhile, the Z Flip7 arrived with a larger 4.1-inch cover screen for more functionality on the go. Both models are now available for pre-order.
Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic, both featuring a bold new ‘squircle’ (square-circle) design. While they use the same 3nm Exynos W1000 chip as last year’s models, the Classic variant includes an Action button from the Watch Ultra and a slightly smaller display compared to the Watch6 Classic. The standard Watch8 keeps things slim and stylish. Notably, there’s no new Watch Ultra – just a fresh color option.
Rumors are heating up for Samsung’s Unpacked event this Wednesday. Besides the confirmed foldables and watches, whispers suggest a possible tri-fold device could make an appearance. Another bit of news: the upcoming Galaxy S25 FE will reportedly get a proper flagship-grade display, one of the key upgrades over its predecessor.
Moving on to OnePlus, the company launched the Nord 5 and Nord CE5. The Nord 5 sports a huge 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and up to 12GB of RAM. A monstrous 6,800mAh battery keeps it going. The more affordable CE5 isn’t holding back either, offering a 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel, MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chip, and a record-breaking 7,100mAh battery – the largest ever in a OnePlus phone.
Motorola entered the scene with the Moto G96, packing a 6.67-inch 144Hz OLED screen, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, and a 5,500mAh battery. It’s set to hit Indian markets on July 16.
Other highlights include new binned variants of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with six-core CPUs, and early hands-on looks at the Tecno Spark 40 Pro+ and Nothing Phone (3). The Tecno impressed with its ultra-slim design, while Nothing continues its trend of stylish practicality. Finally, live images of the Google Pixel 10 Pro surfaced online, looking nearly identical to the Pixel 9 Pro.
