The race for the ultimate gaming monitor just got a major upgrade. SDC, a Chinese manufacturer, is about to unveil a 720Hz WOLED gaming display that could set new standards in the industry.
If you’ve been eyeing the 600Hz options from MSI and ASUS but feel they’re not fast enough, this might be the monitor to scratch that itch.
While other brands like ASUS and MSI have introduced flagship 600Hz monitors, they typically feature QD-OLED or TN panels. SDC’s upcoming release will push the boundaries even further with a WOLED panel that runs within a remarkable 540Hz to 720Hz refresh rate range. This is a first for OLED-based gaming monitors, promising not just speed but also color accuracy and enhanced viewing experiences.
SDC’s 720Hz display will boast a 1440p resolution, offering gamers the perfect blend of speed and clarity. However, there’s a catch. The monitor will use an older DisplayPort 1.4, which raises some questions about its performance. Modern high-refresh monitors often require the uncompressed bandwidth of DP 2.1 UHBR20, which can handle 80 Gbps at 1440p. This might mean that to fully harness the 720Hz speed, the monitor may need to drop down to a 1080p resolution. Nonetheless, the specs look promising: with a peak brightness of 335 nits in SDR and 1500 nits in HDR, the visual experience will be extraordinary for those with the right setup.
Despite its impressive features, the SDC 720Hz gaming monitor is not for everyone. It’s designed with high-performance gamers in mind-those who can achieve frame rates above 700 FPS, which is only possible in select esports titles. And while the monitor might come with a hefty price tag of over $1000, it could be a game-changer for those pushing the limits of gaming hardware.

Tried the ASUS 480Hz OLED, but the colors and pixel quality were TERRIBLE! The ROG 279Q IPS 165Hz is a million times better. I could never go back to OLED after that experience. 🙄
