Severance fans can breathe a little easier-Apple TV+ is officially working on season 3 of the breakout hit, and while no production start date is confirmed yet, the wait likely won’t be another grueling three years.
The show’s massive success has put pressure on the creators to deliver a new chapter that lives up to the high bar set by the first two seasons.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, recently told Variety that while the production timeline remains uncertain, the team is moving forward with intention and urgency. ‘Nobody wants to wait another three years,’ he emphasized, referencing the lengthy delay between seasons 1 and 2 caused by Hollywood strikes and production snags.
Despite the delays, Severance has grown into a streaming juggernaut, racking up 27 Emmy nominations and becoming one of Apple TV+’s most-watched series. Cherniss noted that maintaining the series’ cinematic quality takes time, but reassured fans that the creators are working diligently behind the scenes. ‘They’re going as quickly as they can… and I feel really good about where we’re at,’ he added.
With expectations sky-high and a growing fanbase eagerly awaiting updates, the team behind Severance knows the stakes. Cherniss hinted that while he may have some idea of what’s coming in season 3, even he prefers to be surprised by the unfolding narrative. As anticipation builds, viewers can only hope that production begins soon and delivers the mind-bending drama they crave-without another multiyear delay.
