Last week, Konami made a big announcement: Silent Hill f is officially coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 25, 2025. In a recent deep-dive during the company’s Press Start presentation, Konami, alongside their collaborators at Neobards, revealed more about the development process behind this chilling entry in the Silent Hill series.
The game is set to take a bold new direction, shifting the familiar setting of Silent Hill to Japan, offering a fresh take on the psychological horror genre.
Silent Hill f isn’t just another Silent Hill game-it’s an exploration of the beauty found in terror, a theme that the development team embraced fully. According to Motoi Okamoto, the Silent Hill series producer at Konami, “The setting of Silent Hill f has shifted from the town of Silent Hill to Japan. But it remains a psychological horror experience where one confronts themselves within a mental world.” The team aimed to enhance the essence of Japanese horror, which is known for balancing beauty with disturbing imagery. Okamoto emphasized, “We are creating this title with the concept: Find the beauty in terror.”
Al Yang, the game director at Neobards, shared more about the artistic direction of the game, highlighting the unique visual designs that aimed to strike a balance between unease and charm. The team worked with Kera-san, an artist whose work captured the ideal of “Beauty in Terror” perfectly. Yang mentioned, “We created our visual designs to have a distinct uneasiness to them, but also have a horrific charm that would make it so you just couldn’t stop staring.”
The scriptwriter for Silent Hill f, Ryukishi07, also spoke about the game’s narrative, which connects present-day Japan to the Japan of the 1960s. Though it’s not a huge leap in time, the era still offers a stark contrast to today’s Japan, providing fertile ground for the kind of psychological horror that Silent Hill is known for.
With the game still several months away from release, it’s clear that Silent Hill f has the potential to be one of the most terrifying entries in the series. Konami also teased more Silent Hill news, including a remake of the original game by Bloober Team. It seems like the Silent Hill franchise is in for a major revival, and fans are more excited than ever before.
