The SnyderCut subreddit has officially distanced itself from a rogue post urging fans to sabotage James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. After the now-deleted post circulated online-calling for a campaign of fake reviews, spoiler drops, and mass ticket reservations without purchases-DC Studios co-head James Gunn responded with casual dismissal, saying, “Lol I think we’ll survive.”
The post, which encouraged Snyder fans to “stand up and fight for SnyderVerse,” was quickly removed by subreddit moderators, who clarified that the message was neither approved nor supported by the community’s staff.
“The mere appearance of a post on our sub does not represent any endorsement by us,” the mods emphasized. They stressed that although they welcome fans choosing to skip films they don’t support, they reject dishonest or manipulative tactics to harm releases.
Despite being online for only two hours, the post had already been screenshotted and sent viral, eventually reaching Gunn on Threads. His response-shrugging off the post and mocking its low engagement-may have inadvertently boosted its visibility.
This is just the latest chapter in the ongoing saga surrounding SnyderVerse fandom. After successfully lobbying Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League in 2021, parts of the fanbase have since turned antagonistic toward the new DC Universe direction under Gunn. Even David Ayer, director of 2016’s Suicide Squad, found himself in hot water with the same fanbase last year for backing Gunn’s vision and urging fans to hold off on launching another “Ayer Cut” campaign.
Gunn addressed this polarization in a Rolling Stone interview, acknowledging the “opposing forces” in fandom as inevitable-and even healthy. “You don’t want everything to seem 100% positive,” he said, noting that having pushback can bring balance. He also hinted that certain actors in his Superman cast get too caught up in online negativity, something he tries to temper with broader context.
As Gunn’s rebooted DCU prepares for launch this July, it’s clear that resistance from certain corners of the internet will persist. But if anything, Gunn appears unfazed-seeing opposition not as a threat, but as a strange side effect of passion run amok. Meanwhile, the SnyderCut subreddit is trying to prove that not all fans are on board with toxic tactics, even if the louder voices keep grabbing the mic.
