Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Adds SpongeBob, Avatar, and TMNT in Wild Nickelodeon Crossover
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds just leveled up its chaos with a surprise Nickelodeon crossover. Joining an already packed roster that includes Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza, Joker from Persona 5, and even Minecraft’s Steve and Creeper, the game now brings in SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, and – soon – characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This fresh reveal confirms that Sega isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to fan service. As seen in the new trailer, SpongeBob and Patrick are tearing up the track in the Patty Wagon – yes, the burger-shaped car – as they drift through a lovingly recreated Bikini Bottom circuit. Expect loads of references, from jellyfish fields to iconic landmarks.
These Nickelodeon characters come bundled with the Digital Deluxe Edition’s Season Pass, which also includes the recently announced Minecraft content, characters from Sonic Prime, and two still-secret collaborations. Sega is clearly betting big on variety and nostalgia to power CrossWorlds into must-play status.
The core lineup remains full of Sega all-stars – Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Eggman, and Shadow are all present – but now they’re racing alongside pop culture icons from completely different universes. It’s chaotic, bizarre, and somehow it works.
CrossWorlds will release on both the Switch and Switch 2 in September, directly challenging Nintendo’s own Mario Kart World, a Switch 2 exclusive that’s still sticking to its in-house character rulebook. Sega, on the other hand, is leaning hard into a multi-universe racer war, and it might just pay off.
After hands-on previews, early impressions are positive. IGN called it “a vibe,” with satisfying drifting mechanics and wild crossover energy. With more DLC yet to be revealed, this could be Sega’s boldest kart racer yet.
