Sony Introduces New PS5 Beta Update: Seamless DualSense Controller Pairing & Future Power Saving Mode

Sony has revealed a new PS5 Beta update aimed at improving how the DualSense controller pairs with multiple devices. This upcoming update, available tomorrow for Beta users, makes switching between devices a breeze without the need to re-pair the controller every time.

Once you’ve initially paired your DualSense or DualSense Edge controller with your PS5, PC, and mobile devices, you can seamlessly switch between them with a combination of the PS button and one of the face buttons.

The update allows you to register up to four devices simultaneously, offering the flexibility to switch between them directly from your controller. For example, you could use your PS5 controller on your console, then switch to a PC or even connect it to a smartphone for Remote Play without interrupting your gaming experience.

The process is simple: after the initial pairing, just press the necessary buttons to move from one device to another without missing a beat. Sony’s Shuzo Kikuchi, Vice President of Product Management, describes it as a significant enhancement to your gaming freedom. Although this update is exciting, the power-saving feature Sony announced won’t be available in this update, but it will come soon.

The power-saving mode will reduce the console’s power consumption during gameplay, specifically in titles that support the feature. Games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will consume less power, reducing the performance slightly and disabling features such as VR support. This mode is designed to lower your console’s environmental footprint, particularly when playing games that don’t require heavy graphical power. While it’s a great option for reducing electricity usage and carbon impact, it may not be suitable for players who prioritize high-quality graphics or smooth framerates.

However, it’s still unclear how many games will adopt this power-saving feature and how it will function in practice. Time will tell if it becomes a widely used option among gamers looking to reduce their energy consumption.
