Sony has confirmed that the company will continue adjusting PlayStation Plus pricing, with an increasing number of players opting for the Premium and Extra tiers. During Sony’s annual investors presentation, Hideaki Nishino, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, shared insights into the service’s evolving pricing strategy. 
While PlayStation Plus prices have risen twice so far in this generation, once in 2023 and again in April 2025 (with the latest increase applying to regions outside the US), the demand for the higher-tier subscriptions is on the rise.
Despite the backlash from players who argue that the price hikes are not justified by the offerings – such as the slow pace at which the Classics catalog grows or the perception of fewer first-party games being added – more players are still choosing to upgrade to the Extra and Premium tiers. According to Nishino, this shift is driven by an improved service proposition and greater content variety, resulting in these tiers accounting for around 38% of all subscribers.
In a video released alongside the business segment, Nishino addressed concerns about future price increases and stated that PlayStation Plus is highly valued by its players, driving engagement even with recent price hikes. He acknowledged the global price increases in 2023, as well as the local adjustments in selected countries. These changes, he noted, were partly due to fluctuations in foreign exchange rates and the increasing value of the content and features added to the service.
Although Nishino did not directly confirm additional price hikes, he emphasized that increasing the service’s value through better content and enhanced features was essential for Sony’s ongoing profitability. With the growing popularity of higher-tier subscriptions, it’s likely that PlayStation Plus pricing will continue to fluctuate as Sony adjusts its strategy to maintain profitability while offering valuable content.
