Sony has announced that it will temporarily suspend the sales and shipments of its Xperia 1 VII flagship smartphone in Japan due to a series of technical issues affecting the device. Unveiled in May, the Xperia 1 VII has already been available in the Japanese market, but many users have reported severe problems with their units, including random reboots, devices shutting down without warning, and some even failing to turn on entirely.
These issues are clearly concerning, especially for a high-end model like the Xperia 1 VII, which is priced around €1500.
To address the problem, Sony has suggested a temporary workaround for users whose phones won’t turn on. They recommend holding both the power and volume-up buttons for about 20 seconds in order to restart the phone. If this doesn’t solve the issue, users are encouraged to apply the latest software update or contact Sony’s support team for further assistance.
Interestingly, while Sony’s support page mentions that a software update may help resolve the issues, it also notes that the company is still investigating the root cause of the problems. This raises questions about whether the update is more of a precautionary measure than an actual fix. Regardless, users are left in limbo as Sony works to determine the cause of the disruptions and whether the update will fully resolve the issues.
For now, it seems that the Xperia 1 VII’s troubles are confined to Japan, but the larger question remains: Could these issues spread to other markets? It’s a developing situation, and we’ll be monitoring it closely to see how Sony handles this setback and whether it can regain consumer confidence.
