Big news has just dropped about Soulframe! Digital Extremes revealed at TennoCon 2025 that the Preludes pre-alpha is now open for anyone to try out, as long as they sign up by July 20, 11:59 PM ET. If you make the deadline, you’ll get full access until the game officially launches.

Even after the sign-up period ends, you can still register, but you’ll be put on a waitlist until more slots open up.

Geoff Crookes, Soulframe’s Creative Director, shared some exciting insights on how the game’s evolving: “We’ve spent over a year refining Soulframe based on feedback from players in the Preludes builds. Combat is smoother, the fights feel more grounded, and we’ve added awesome new features like social hubs for players and World Trees for asynchronous messaging. We’ve worked hard to make sure the game keeps evolving.”

One of the major updates is the improvement to combat. The system has been fine-tuned, with revamped movement, stagger mechanics, and the introduction of a “Smite” critical hit that lets players steal souls from enemies. Bows are getting a rework, and a new “Combat Arts” system is being added, allowing weapons to level up and unlock unique abilities. Fans will also get more weapons, like a two-handed axe, to add more variety to the combat.

The TennoCon 2025 gameplay demo also revealed several new content features. A new fable called “The She-Wolf Snared” has been added to the game, and playing it will give you the chance to get your very own puppy. Seasonal events like “Festival of the Circade” and “Akfolmar” are now in the game, adding even more seasonal fun. Missions are getting a revamp, with the Sparrow’s Tale system now linked to in-game factions, bringing more variety and challenges to the mission types.

One of the coolest additions is a new player experience where players choose one of three alignments-Spirit, Courage, or Grace-tied to factions like Alchemist’s Children, Kith and Kin, and Silent Rose. These choices will affect how players experience the game. A new enemy, the Wazzard of Wastes, will also make its debut. This mini-boss, a magical creature causing rot in the Galvinar Swam, introduces a new parry feature that lets players reflect projectiles back at enemies.

And, if you’re wondering what’s next, get ready for the Bromius boss fight. Attendees of TennoCon 2025 got a sneak peek at the underground Neath’uns realm, which is filled with mutated Sproutfolk and environmental puzzles. The goal? To help Bromius, a three-headed creature corrupted by dark forces, heal from the tainted sap that controls him.

Customization is also a big focus in this update. Players will be able to tweak their Envoy’s look with a set of new hairstyles. The first set of eight styles is already in production, and more are on the way. But it’s not just about looks-combat is also customizable. Players can fine-tune their character’s skills and progression to suit their playstyle. Whether you prefer close-range melee combat or ranged damage, there’s a build for every type of player. You can even combine offensive and defensive skills to support your teammates in co-op play.
