Who Is the Weird Baby in the New Superman Trailer? Here’s the Answer!

This week’s latest Superman trailer dropped a lot of new footage, and fans are buzzing over a brief but intriguing shot. In it, Superman is seen holding a mysterious, alien-looking baby, leaving everyone to wonder: who is this little one? Although the identity of the baby hasn’t been officially revealed by DC or James Gunn, it seems we already know the answer – thanks to a recently released children’s book.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

The book, titled Superman: Friends and Foes!, includes details on various characters set to appear in the film, including one character named Joey Mason.

Baby Joey, as the book calls him, is the toddler son of Metamorpho, a character with the unique ability to transform his body into any element. According to the book, when Baby Joey is kidnapped, Metamorpho is forced to choose between teaming up with Superman or Lex Luthor.

While the book doesn’t provide much more information, it’s clear that this ties directly into the trailer scene. In the trailer, Superman is shown entangled with Metamorpho in what looks like a chaotic environment. It’s likely that Superman rescues Baby Joey, thus persuading Metamorpho to join forces with him in the battle against their enemies.

Given Metamorpho’s transformative powers, he’s definitely a major threat to Superman, and this conflict promises to be one of the movie’s key action moments. While Baby Joey’s storyline is only a small part of the film, there’s plenty more to discuss from the trailer, including a face-off between Superman and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, as well as a fun co-op finisher featuring Krypto the Superdog.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the Superman film will be 2 hours and 9 minutes long, including credits and post-credits scenes. That’s 15 minutes shorter than Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel from 2013, and many fans have wondered how the film will balance all the characters it’s introducing. With supporting characters like Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and now Baby Joey all involved, the movie has a lot to pack into its relatively short runtime. However, despite some fans’ concerns about the movie’s crowded cast, it’s clear that Superman’s 2025 adventure is shaping up to be an action-packed spectacle.

They're trying way too hard to hype this movie. I was gonna watch it opening weekend, but with all these promos, I'm kinda over it now. Maybe I'll check it out later, but idk…
