Nintendo has just announced that the Switch 2 has officially become the fastest-selling hardware in the company’s history, with over 3.5 million units sold worldwide in its first four days. This impressive milestone highlights the strong demand for the new console, which has been met with favorable stock availability.
Nintendo’s past hardware releases, including the original Switch, often struggled with supply issues at launch. But this time, Nintendo has been able to meet demand, especially in the U.S., according to Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s president.
The Switch 2’s success doesn’t come as a surprise considering its early reception and the strong sales momentum in key markets. In comparison, the original Switch only sold 2.74 million units in its first month, a slower pace when compared to the new system’s rapid adoption. The Switch 2 also just broke records in the UK, where it became the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever, surpassing the Nintendo 3DS.
The console has received mostly positive feedback for its improvements, though some critics note that while it’s an upgrade, it’s not radically different from its predecessor. In a recent review, we mentioned that the Switch 2 enhances the overall experience by modernizing several outdated features and introducing a new control option. However, not all aspects of the system are perfect, with some issues still present in certain features. Still, the improvements seem to be paying off for Nintendo, especially with the new titles such as Mario Kart and F-Zero GX launching alongside the system, despite being overshadowed by the hype around bigger franchises.
Despite the success, some fans have expressed skepticism, citing concerns about the cost of the system, especially considering the Switch 2’s outdated hardware in comparison to its competitors. But others are already looking forward to the future, hoping for announcements of new releases like Metroid Prime 4, which could further boost sales.
