Tecno has launched its Spark 40 series, which includes three new models: the Spark 40, Spark 40 Pro, and Spark 40 Pro+.
The series is designed to offer a variety of features, from budget-friendly to more premium specifications, making it suitable for a range of users.
The Spark 40 is the entry-level model, featuring a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s powered by the Helio G81 chipset and comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. Despite its lower-tier status, it offers a solid 50MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie shooter. The phone also packs a 5,200mAh battery with 45W fast charging. The Spark 40 is priced at UGX 479,000 ($133), making it one of the more affordable devices in this series.
The Spark 40 Pro offers a higher level of performance with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, still sporting 1220p+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by the Helio G100 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB storage options. The camera setup is quite similar to the Spark 40 Pro+, featuring a 50MP rear camera and a 13MP front-facing camera. It also supports 45W wired charging and has the same IP64 water and dust resistance rating. The Spark 40 Pro is priced at UGX 679,000 ($189) and will be available for open sales starting July 7.
However, the real star of the show is the Spark 40 Pro+. This model is the first to launch with MediaTek’s Helio G200 chipset, offering substantial performance improvements. With up to 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage, the Spark 40 Pro+ features a large 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a 1220p+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The main camera is a 50MP shooter, paired with a 13MP selfie camera. The Pro+ model is also equipped with a large 5,200mAh battery, supporting 45W wired charging, 30W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging. The device also boasts IP64 rating for water and dust resistance, adding durability to its already impressive features. The Spark 40 Pro+ is priced at UGX 769,000 ($214) and is currently available for pre-order in Uganda. It comes in four color options: Nebula Black, Aurora White, Moon Titanium, and Tundra Green.
In terms of design, the Spark 40 series seems to take inspiration from several well-known brands. The Spark 40 has been compared to the iPhone for its triple-camera setup, though it’s actually just a single camera with two decorative circles. The Spark 40 Pro and Pro+ have drawn comparisons to Samsung’s and Oppo’s devices, with some users noting that the design looks very similar to the Oppo Reno 12 series and Samsung’s S series. While the design may seem familiar, the Spark 40 series delivers solid performance at an affordable price.
