Elon Musk’s xAI assistant Grok has officially landed inside Tesla vehicles – but not all of them.
If your car’s brain runs on AMD’s Ryzen chips, congratulations, you get to chat with Grok. If it’s still stuck on an older Intel Atom processor, tough luck – you’re not invited to the AI party.
This rollout comes with the Tesla 2025.26 software update and is limited to cars equipped with AMD Ryzen infotainment systems. These newer systems boast Zen 3 architecture with up to 8 cores, providing the muscle Grok needs to run locally. Meanwhile, Intel’s outdated Atom platform simply can’t keep up – not enough horsepower under the hood.
To check if your Tesla qualifies, hop into Settings > Software > Additional Vehicle Info. If you see AMD listed, you’re good to go. If not, you’re stuck in the past, at least until Tesla decides otherwise (don’t hold your breath).
For now, Grok won’t control your car or adjust the AC – it’s strictly a talkative passenger. But true to its meme-lord roots, it’ll keep you entertained with witty commentary, dumb jokes, and possibly smarter responses than your last co-pilot.
Tesla made the switch from Intel to AMD in 2021, recognizing Ryzen’s edge in raw compute power. It seems that decision is now paying off. Those who shelled out for newer models will enjoy Grok’s antics, while older Tesla owners are left to wonder if it’s time for an upgrade – or just stick with Spotify and dreams.
