Forza Motorsport Dev Turn 10 Now Supporting Forza Horizon, According to Rumors

Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 has reportedly transitioned into a support studio for Forza Horizon, a shift that comes as part of broader changes in the gaming industry.

Rumors, fueled by a post from former employee Fred Russel on Facebook, suggest that Turn 10, known for its work on the Forza Motorsport series, has closed down its Motorsport division to assist Playground Games with Forza Horizon’s development.

This move follows a series of recent layoffs across the gaming sector, with over 70 employees let go from Turn 10 alone. This restructuring is part of a larger trend affecting several major studios. Microsoft, in particular, has faced significant challenges, including the cancellation of high-profile projects like the Perfect Dark reboot by The Initiative and Rare’s Everwild. Even a new MMORPG developed by ZeniMax Online was canceled despite early praise from Xbox head Phil Spencer.

The shift away from Forza Motorsport, a franchise once seen as a rival to Gran Turismo, is a notable loss for fans of simulation racing. The latest entry, however, had received positive reviews, marking a return to form for the series. Yet, it seems the focus is now on the more commercially successful Horizon series, which has captured a broader audience with its open-world approach and accessible gameplay. It remains to be seen if Playground Games can revive the Motorsport legacy alongside their Horizon work, but many fans are hopeful.

Maybe Microsoft realized it's cheaper to get a game like Expedition 33 on Gamepass than throw 100 million at a project that fails. 🤔
