Ubisoft Reportedly Cans Star Wars Outlaws Sequel Amid Disappointing Launch

Ubisoft may have quietly pulled the plug on a sequel to Star Wars Outlaws, according to a fresh rumor making rounds in the gaming world. Just days ago, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot drew criticism for suggesting the Star Wars brand itself was to blame for Outlaws’ underwhelming launch, calling the IP “in choppy waters.” Now, new info from Insider-Gaming’s podcast, led by known leaker Tom Henderson, suggests that Ubisoft recently canceled Star Wars Outlaws 2 while it was still in its infancy.

According to Henderson and senior editor Mike Straw, the sequel had not yet entered full production and was axed while still in the conceptual phase.

Straw even joked we might’ve been “seven years away” from seeing anything playable. Given Ubisoft’s rough 2024-with a series of commercial stumbles-this news doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

Despite being one of the most hyped titles in Ubisoft’s lineup, Outlaws launched to mixed reviews and slow sales. The company had to overhaul parts of the game post-launch in response to widespread player dissatisfaction. The creative lead himself admitted disappointment with how critics received the game. It got so bad that Ubisoft used the game’s flop as justification to delay Assassin’s Creed Shadows to March 2025.

When you connect the dots-poor sales, internal discontent, leadership deflecting blame-it paints a picture of a publisher unwilling to roll the dice again. Even if the sequel was in discussion, Ubisoft appears to have decided that one trip through the Outer Rim was enough.
