Ubisoft Red Storm Lays Off 19 Employees Amid Global Cost-Saving Efforts

Ubisoft Red Storm, the studio behind iconic franchises like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Star Trek: Bridge Crew, has laid off 19 employees. This news comes amid the company’s global cost-saving efforts, as confirmed by Ubisoft in a statement to IGN.

While the layoffs only affected Red Storm, Ubisoft declined to provide further details about the number of employees remaining or the current state of the studio’s projects.

Founded by author Tom Clancy, Red Storm Entertainment made its mark in the gaming industry with successful titles such as Ghost Recon and contributing to The Division. In recent years, however, the studio has shifted towards virtual reality (VR) projects, including the VR-based Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. Red Storm also worked on the canceled Splinter Cell VR game and the shut-down XDefiant, which led to further layoffs.

Red Storm’s history of contributing to major franchises has been overshadowed by its more recent ventures in VR. However, the future remains uncertain for the studio as its current projects and status remain unclear.

Layoffs are absolutely awful, but I wonder how long VR has with major studios. Feels like a warning sign
