Ubisoft took a somewhat different approach to Summer Game Fest 2025. Instead of holding its own Ubisoft Forward event, the company appeared within the larger festivities, showcasing new release dates and introducing a fresh game. One of the key reveals was the announcement of the release date for Anno 117: Pax Romana, set to launch on November 13, 2025. This real-time strategy game, coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, displayed an intriguing trailer full of stunning visuals, though fans who want a deeper dive into gameplay can still revisit earlier teasers.
Moving on, we got a glimpse of The Rogue Prince of Persia, the 2D platformer from Evil Empire. While an exact release date was not provided, we did get a release window for its 1.0 update, expected in August 2025. The game had a strong early access debut last year, with many praising its combination of the iconic Prince of Persia mechanics and roguelike elements. Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo wrote, ‘Even in its early state, The Rogue Prince of Persia masterfully blends the best of Prince of Persia and Dead Cells in a solid package offering a more involved narrative, excellent platforming, dynamic combat and a lot of death, as is tradition for a proper roguelite.’
Finally, Ubisoft unveiled a new game titled Morbid Metal, developed by Screen Juice. This action-packed hack-and-slash roguelite is set in a dystopian future with semi-procedurally generated levels. It is expected to hit early access on PC on August 20, 2025, and will feature three playable characters, each with unique playstyles. Fans can try out a demo on Steam right now, which could give a sneak peek into the gameplay mechanics.
However, Ubisoft’s announcements weren’t what many had hoped for during this year’s Summer Game Fest. There was no mention of Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed, or updates on the Rainbow Six Siege X expansion-set to release just days after the event. Fans were also left wondering about the future of Far Cry and the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake. With Ubisoft not hosting a 2025 Forward event, any major updates for these franchises may not come until later in the year, possibly through third-party showcases like Gamescom or The Game Awards.
Ubisoft seems to be undergoing significant internal changes, which may explain the subdued announcements. While this quieter period might feel disheartening, especially following the lackluster 2024, fans are still eager to see what the company will bring to the table in the future.
