If you remember navigating through the paintings in Princess Peach’s Castle back in Super Mario 64, you’re in for a treat – you can do something similar in Mario Kart World to activate Mirror Mode in Free Roam.

To access this secret, you first need to unlock Mirror Mode in the game. The method won’t work until you’ve done so. In order to unlock Mirror Mode, you’ll need to complete all the cups on 150cc, and finish some tasks such as P-Switches, Peach Medallions, and Question Panels during Free Roam. Once unlocked, you’ll be ready for the secret.

Now, here’s how you unlock it: First, load up the Princess Stadium course in Free Roam. (Pro tip: You can fast travel there by pressing Y on the world map.) Once there, drive off the road to the right and spiral upwards towards Princess Peach’s Castle. Aim to land on the big red roof, then drive to the main turret of the castle. In front of you, you’ll see a large stained glass window with Peach’s image. Drive straight through the window, and voilà! You’ll experience a Mario 64-style ripple effect, and you’ll be warped into a mirrored version of Mario Kart World. Even the world map will be flipped!

This Easter egg offers a refreshing way to revisit the game’s open world with a fun twist. Check out the video below to see the feature in action.

Earlier this week, some fans noticed that Mario Kart World creator Shigeru Miyamoto was absent from the game’s credits. While this raised a few eyebrows, it’s not entirely surprising. Meanwhile, in Japan, a farmer praised the game’s depiction of its fan-favorite Cow character, particularly its ‘mucky butt,’ which definitely sparked some fun discussions.

Man, I loved driving up to the Mario 64 castle in Royal Raceway! Totally unnecessary, but it blew my mind back then
