vivo X Fold5 Aims for Foldable Supremacy With Slimmer, Lighter Design

As the foldable phone market continues to evolve, manufacturers are pushing the limits-not just in functionality, but also in form.

vivo is leading the charge in 2025 with its upcoming X Fold5, a device that’s not only slimmer but also lighter than its predecessor.

A teaser video recently shared by vivo exec Boxiao Han shows the X Fold3 (219g) and the yet-to-be-released X Fold5 being weighed. While no exact weight was revealed, the new model is clearly lighter, promising to become the lightest large foldable yet.

Why does this matter? For foldables, thickness and weight aren’t just spec-sheet numbers-they dramatically impact daily use. When folded, these devices double in thickness compared to regular phones. The X Fold5 reportedly slims down to 4.3mm unfolded and 9.33mm folded-a tangible improvement from the X Fold3’s 4.7mm/10.2mm profile. While the Oppo Find N5 and upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7 boast thinner bodies, they’re heavier than the X Fold5 is expected to be.

Despite its slim profile, vivo hasn’t skimped on power. The X Fold5 is rumored to carry the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. The camera setup includes a triple 50MP rear array with a 3x telephoto lens, plus dual 32MP front-facing cameras-one on each screen. A massive 6,000mAh battery powers it all, with 90W wired and 30W wireless charging.

Displays? Expect an 8.03” 120Hz 2K+ foldable inner screen and a 6.53” 120Hz LTPO OLED cover screen-everything you’d want in a premium tablet-phone hybrid. And yet, with all these features, vivo appears to have kept the weight under 219g.

The X Fold5 is expected to launch globally alongside the vivo X200 FE on July 10. While some critics argue that extreme slimming compromises durability and camera performance, others see the reduced bulk as the final barrier being lifted for mainstream foldable adoption.

In a world where foldables are finally catching up in usability and comfort, the X Fold5 could mark a significant turning point-not just in specs, but in how people carry and interact with mobile tech daily.

I miss the days when phones had beefy cameras and long battery life. These ultra-thins compromise too much imho
