vivo is set to unveil the X Fold5 in China on June 25, with a global launch expected on July 10. Leading up to the announcement, the company has ramped up its teaser campaign on Weibo, sharing new official images and a hands-on video of the foldable phone. 
Although the video is in Chinese, it’s easy to get a feel for the device’s design and features, even without understanding the language.
One major highlight is that the X Fold5 will break the record for being the lightest book-style foldable, surpassing the X Fold3 from last year, which currently holds the title. Weighing in at under 219g, the X Fold5 is edging into regular smartphone territory in terms of heft.
Additionally, the X Fold5 will be thinner than its predecessor, but don’t let the reduced size fool you-it’s still packing a hefty 6,000 mAh battery, the largest ever seen in a foldable phone. The battery’s composition includes 12% silicon content, allowing it to perform even in extreme cold conditions, with the ability to operate at -30°C. The hinge has been rigorously tested to function at -20°C, ensuring durability in all climates.
In terms of multitasking, vivo promises a boost with its Atomic Workbench feature, offering a desktop-like experience that should elevate the usability of the foldable. Another exciting aspect of the X Fold5 is its seamless integration into the Apple ecosystem. While iPhone users have long been confined to the Apple world, the X Fold5 will allow them to continue using their iPhones alongside the new foldable phone without abandoning the Apple environment. A vivo executive has even stated that it’s possible to replace an iPhone with the X Fold5, offering a smooth transition for users looking to switch to a foldable device.
