vivo has officially launched two new devices in India – the X Fold5 and X200 FE – aiming to make a bold statement in both the foldable and premium midrange segments.
However, reactions have been mixed, with enthusiasts praising the design and battery life while questioning some hardware choices and pricing strategies.
The vivo X Fold5 is the brand’s thinnest and lightest book-style foldable yet, measuring just 9.2mm when folded and 4.3mm when open. It sports a massive 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 90W fast charging, a triple 50MP camera setup, and a stunning 8.03-inch LTPO OLED inner screen, complemented by a 6.5-inch cover display. Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, ensuring flagship-grade performance.
Despite the premium build and specs, pricing has raised eyebrows. At INR 149,999 (~$1,744) for the sole 16/512GB variant, many feel the phone doesn’t offer enough to justify its price over newer or more affordable alternatives. It lacks vivo’s V3+ chip in this region, affecting image processing compared to rivals like the Xiaomi 15 or Samsung’s upcoming Z Fold7.
Meanwhile, the X200 FE enters as the fifth addition to the X200 lineup. It features a 6.31-inch AMOLED display, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300+ processor, and a massive 6,500mAh Si/C battery with 90W charging. Like the Fold5, it also houses a triple 50MP camera array and boasts IP68/69 water and dust resistance. Available in Luxe Grey, Frost Blue, and Amber Yellow, it starts at INR 54,999 (~$640) for the 12/256GB model and goes up to INR 59,999 (~$698) for the 16/512GB version.
However, reviews of the X200 FE point out some compromises. The wide-angle camera has been especially criticized for poor quality, with users lamenting the lack of a proper sensor. Others suggest that for the price, vivo should have included stereo speakers, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and a more modern main camera module.
With open sales for the X200 FE starting July 23 and the X Fold5 hitting shelves on July 30, consumers have a decision to make – embrace vivo’s bold designs, or opt for more balanced offerings like the Xiaomi 15 or wait for Samsung’s Z Fold7, which could shake things up once its price stabilizes.
