vivo Y50 and Y50m 5G Go Official with Huge Battery, IP64 Rating, and Budget Pricing

vivo has launched two new budget-friendly 5G smartphones in China – the Y50 5G and Y50m 5G

Despite the slight name difference, the devices share nearly identical specs, with the main divergence lying in RAM options. The Y50 kicks off with a 4GB model, while the Y50m skips it and starts from 6GB.

Both phones pack a sizable 6.74-inch IPS LCD display with a 1600×720 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. That might not sound ultra-sharp by modern standards, but it keeps the price in check and battery life high – and speaking of battery, you’re getting a beastly 6,000mAh cell with 44W fast charging support.

Under the hood, the duo runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset built on a 6nm process. Storage options range between 128GB and 256GB, expandable via microSD. The RAM tiers stretch from 4GB to a surprising 12GB for a device at this price point.

Photography isn’t a strong suit here, but it’s functional. There’s a 13MP main rear camera and a 5MP selfie shooter – enough for casual snaps and video calls. On the software side, both phones ship with OriginOS 5 out of the box.

As for durability, the Y50 and Y50m carry an IP64 rating, making them resistant to dust and splashes – not fully waterproof, but still more rugged than many rivals in the same bracket. They weigh 204g and measure 8.2mm thick, giving them a solid in-hand presence without feeling too bulky.

Color options include Azure, Diamond Black, and Platinum. Pricing is aggressive: the Y50 starts at CNY 1,199 (~€143 / ₹14,500) for the 4/128GB model. The higher 6/128GB, 8/256GB, and 12/256GB models come in at CNY 1,499, 1,999, and 2,299 respectively. The Y50m shares the same pricing structure minus the 4GB variant.

While some may gripe about the 720p display, vivo seems focused on delivering long battery life, 5G connectivity, and solid build quality for the price-conscious user. It’s not about breaking records – it’s about giving the essentials, reliably.
