In a major move, WB Games has undergone a significant restructuring, reorganizing its teams into four divisions centered around its biggest franchises: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and the DC Universe.

As reported by Variety, this restructuring involves promoting three high-ranking studio heads to oversee the games based on these legendary properties.

Yves Lachance, the former head of WB Games Montreal, now serves as the Senior Vice President of Development for both Harry Potter and Game of Thrones projects. This new role means Lachance will oversee the development of all Harry Potter-related games, including upcoming titles from Avalanche Software, which is currently working on a new entry in the Wizarding World franchise. Likewise, Shaun Himmerick, who previously led NetherRealm Studios, takes on the same role but for Mortal Kombat and DC Universe projects, including Rocksteady’s anticipated new game set in the DC Universe.

Meanwhile, Steven Flenory, formerly the head of WB Games New York, has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Central Technology and Services. His responsibilities will cover areas like publishing technology, customer service, quality assurance, and user research. Under this new structure, all WB Games studios will report to Lachance and Himmerick depending on the franchise they’re working on, further streamlining the development process.

This restructuring, which reportedly did not lead to any layoffs or executive departures, is part of Warner Bros.’s plan to create long-term development roadmaps for their key franchises. CEO JB Perrette expressed confidence in this new structure, emphasizing the wealth of talent at WB Games and the commitment to making the best possible games for Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC fans.

Despite the restructuring, this comes on the heels of some disappointing financial results for WB Games earlier this year, including the closure of several studios like Monolith Productions and the shutdown of Player First Games. With the new focus on these four franchises, it’s clear that Warner Bros. intends to double down on its most successful properties while carefully reworking its game development strategy.
