Samsung is gearing up for its Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 9th, at 10 AM ET / 7 AM PT, and the tech world is buzzing with anticipation. Expect a major update to Samsung’s foldable smartphone lineup, along with cutting-edge Galaxy AI features.
Of course, no tech event is complete without AI these days, right?
If you’re eager to see what’s coming, you can catch the event live on YouTube or via Samsung’s newsroom. For those who want to be first in line, Samsung is already taking reservations for the upcoming devices, so you can get your hands on whatever’s announced as soon as it’s available.
This year marks the seventh generation of Samsung’s foldable devices, and fans are expecting a refreshed lineup with up to four new models. Look for the new Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and a Z Flip 7 FE, alongside updated Galaxy Watches. There’s also a chance Samsung will tease or announce a brand-new, double-hinged foldable, a first for the brand.
Among these new releases, the Z Fold 7 is shaping up to be the most exciting, possibly even branded as the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra. Leaks from Roland Quandt show what could be official marketing materials, revealing the device will feature a 6.5-inch exterior display, unfolding to a massive 8-inch screen on the inside. The new version of this iconic foldable is expected to be the slimmest yet, measuring just 4.2mm thick when unfolded, compared to 5.6mm on the Z Fold 6. When folded, it’s expected to be 8.9mm, a significant improvement over the previous model’s 12.1mm thickness.
The Z Flip 7 is also getting a makeover, with a new 4-inch outer display that stretches across the top panel, leaving space only for the cameras and flash. Inside, the display will grow to 6.9 inches, up from 6.7 inches in last year’s model. Although leaks suggest Samsung has slimmed down the device, it’s unclear from the images whether the thickness has been reduced as much as expected.
For the first time, Samsung is bringing its foldable technology to the budget-friendly FE series with the Z Flip 7 FE. This model is set to come in black and white, featuring the same design and specs as the Z Fold 6, which was well-received in reviews.
Finally, Android Authority uncovered clues within Samsung’s One UI 8 software that hint at a new foldable with dual inward-folding hinges. The device, rumored to be called the “Multifold7,” may be teased during the event, but it’s unlikely to be available for purchase anytime soon. Similar to past Samsung devices like the Galaxy Ring or Galaxy Edge, this new foldable could be more of a concept or tease than an actual release.
