The Wheel of Time: A Promising Journey Cut Short

Amazon Prime Video’s decision to cancel The Wheel of Time after its third season has left fans and creators alike grappling with disappointment. Despite a rocky start, the series had begun to find its footing, culminating in a third season that many considered its best yet.

Brandon Sanderson, who completed Robert Jordan’s original book series, expressed his dismay over the cancellation. In a recent comment, he noted, “I do think it’s a shame, as while I had my problems with the show, it had a fanbase who deserved better than a cancellation after the best season.” Sanderson also revealed that he was largely sidelined during the show’s production, stating, “They wanted my name on it for legitimacy, but not to involve me in any meaningful way.”

Season 3 of The Wheel of Time received critical acclaim, boasting a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans praised the improved pacing, character development, and adherence to the source material. However, despite these improvements, the series faced declining viewership numbers and high production costs, leading to its untimely end.

In response, a passionate fan campaign has emerged, aiming to save the series. Over 120,000 fans have signed a petition urging for the continuation of the show. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has raised over $15,000 to fund billboards and sky-banners in major cities, hoping to catch the attention of other streaming platforms.

While the future of The Wheel of Time remains uncertain, the fervent support from its fanbase underscores the impact and potential of the series. Whether another platform will pick up the mantle remains to be seen, but the story’s rich world and dedicated following suggest that the wheel may yet turn again.

I heard that Season 3 was great. But the problem wasn't Season 3. The problem was Season 1. The start turned away a lot of the potential audience. First introductions mean a lot
