Amazon MGM Studios is gearing up for a live-action Wolfenstein series, with Patrick Somerville-the creative mind behind the acclaimed Fallout show-taking the reins as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. The announcement, first reported by Variety, hints at another major video game adaptation heading to the small screen.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the show’s current tagline, “The story of killing Nazis is evergreen,” sets a tone fans of the brutal, alternate-history FPS franchise will find familiar.
Joining Somerville is Jerk Gustafsson, a key figure from MachineGames, the studio responsible for the modern Wolfenstein titles.
Gustafsson brings his deep franchise knowledge, having served as designer, writer, and producer on several entries since the 2014 reboot.
The Wolfenstein franchise has a legacy stretching across 14 games and decades of fan devotion. Somerville, a longtime fan himself, may draw inspiration from various eras of the series-not just the MachineGames titles-which opens up possibilities for unique storytelling angles.
Given Somerville’s recent success adapting Fallout for television, expectations are high. If this project delivers, it could reinvigorate the game series and push the Wolfenstein universe further into mainstream pop culture.
