Xiaomi XRING 02: A New Chipset for Cars, Tablets, and More?

Xiaomi is reportedly working on the next evolution of its custom chipset, the XRING 02, which could go beyond smartphones and tablets. According to rumors circulating on Weibo via Digital Chat Station, the XRING 02 might also power future Xiaomi cars and other devices. This move would significantly expand Xiaomi’s hardware ecosystem, similar to Apple’s strategy. Xiaomi made waves with the launch of the XRING 01, utilizing TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process.

The XRING 02 is expected to continue this trend, but it might also be used in unexpected places like cars, where it could enable features like remote vehicle locking, unlocking, and seamless device pairing between smartphones, wearables, and vehicles.

What’s more interesting is that Xiaomi’s move to develop custom chipsets could allow for deeper integration and tighter control over its product ecosystem. The idea is that devices running on the XRING 02, such as smartphones, tablets, and wearables, could work in perfect harmony, sharing notifications and enabling new functionalities

. This vision extends to Xiaomi’s vehicles, where the XRING 02 could act as the central hub for various operations.

However, there are some challenges ahead. Xiaomi’s XRING 02 could be limited by the available semiconductor manufacturing process, as TSMC’s 2nm node may be out of reach due to U.S. export restrictions. This could restrict Xiaomi to using the 3nm N3E process, which would put the XRING 02 at a disadvantage compared to competitors using the 2nm process. But these are early days, and many of the details remain speculative, so we’ll have to wait for official announcements before jumping to conclusions.
