Zenith’s Lapis Lazuli Chronomaster: Beauty, Heritage, and Blue Obsession
As Zenith’s 160th anniversary rolls into full swing, the brand continues to flood its lineup with blue-themed tributes — and none shines brighter (literally and figuratively) than the new Zenith Chronomaster Original Triple-Calendar Lapis Lazuli.
Though not radically innovative in mechanics, this limited edition stands out for its breathtaking aesthetic and refined execution, blending horological tradition with natural artistry.
The watch case retains the classic 38mm stainless steel form factor known in the Chronomaster Original family — compact, but substantial enough for a triple-calendar chronograph. Tapered lugs, piston pushers, a nearly bezel-less domed sapphire crystal, and sharp finishing set the stage. The polished chamfers and sunburst-brushed lugs provide an elegant frame. Around back, a sapphire display caseback offers a view of the movement, though some might find it oddly small within the case
. Water resistance is a modest 50m — enough for daily life, not for swimming.
Where this model truly mesmerizes is the lapis lazuli dial — a deep, celestial blue stone flecked with golden pyrite inclusions. The texture varies subtly under light, bringing it alive.
Rather than overwhelming the dial with stone, Zenith has cleverly built a six-layer design with silver subdials, a recessed minute ring, and a denim-toned moonphase window at 6 o’clock. It’s a masterclass in visual balance despite multiple complications and textures.
Functionality is equally impressive
. Inside ticks the El Primero 3610 — a high-frequency (36,000 bph) column-wheel chronograph with a full triple-calendar and moonphase module. That includes day, date (in the 4:30 position — controversial but clean), month, and a 1/10th second central chronograph hand. It offers a robust 60-hour power reserve. A deployant-clasped, midnight blue calfskin leather strap complements the stonework without distracting from it.
Zenith’s dive into deep blue this year hasn’t gone unnoticed. This particular release might just be the most striking tribute so far. Yes, the $22,700 USD price tag will raise eyebrows — particularly given the brand’s historically weak resale value compared to rivals. But for those seeking a forever-piece — a statement watch with both elegance and mechanical muscle — this could be a crown jewel.
It’s not about trends. It’s about time, legacy, and that mesmerizing blue that just won’t quit.
